How We Work

Many Hands Make Light Work

Care for Others uses a simple, yet effective method to provide help to hard-working people who find themselves temporarily unable to meet their day-to-day financial obligations.

Through CFO's Helping Hands Grants, of not more than $1,000 per recipient, we assist individuals and families experiencing an unexpected, but temporary challenge in their lives. These are conscientious, responsible people who are able to work and/or live independently, but who through no fault of their own, find themselves one step away from entering the cycle of poverty. Helping Hands Grants are intended to bridge the gap and return recipients to financial independence and self sufficiency.

Application Process

Care for Others accepts on-line electronic applications only. Please go to the Apply For Help section to view our eligibility requirements and submit your application

Application Review

  • 1. When an application is received, Care for Others staff begins the internal review process. Most often, applicants can expect to receive a telephone call or email from Care for Others within 3 business days to determine if the applicant meets our eligibility requirements. If eligible, the applicant will be advised of the next step which is submission of appropriate documentation.
  • 2. Once all documentation has been received Care for Others staff will then verify all information applicants provide. Required documentation will always include but may not be limited to: proof of identity, proof of address, documentation of income and documentation of the temporary need and the circumstances surrounding the request. Documentation can be scanned, faxed or mailed.
  • However, the faster we receive the documentation, the faster we can expedite getting it in for review. It is recommended that all documentation be collected and sent at the same time.
  • 3. Once all information has been received and verified by Care for Others, the application will be sent for review. At this time a decision will be made on the amount and date of issuance of the Helping Hands Grant. The applicant is then notified of the decision by phone or e-mail.
  • 4. All Helping Hands Grants are paid directly to the creditor, not to the recipient.
  • 5. Recipients of Helping Hands Grants can only receive assistance from Care for Others once per year (a year from the date of the initial grant); and two times total, lifetime maximum $1000.
